Tomb owner's son hunting wild animals, a detail from the tomb of Khnumhotep II at Beni Hassan

The tomb owner's son, Nehri (Nḥrj), aims his bow and arrow at wild animals. This detail comes from the second row, or register, of a desert hunt scene on the chapel's north wall General view of the north wall. Ahead of Nehri is a hunting dog which is grasping an oryx (Oryx dammah) by its hindleg. In the sub-register above the oryx is a caracal (Caracal caracal) Caracal in the desert. The caracal can be identified by the tufts of hair on the end of its ears.
