Hunting dogs on a leash, a detail from the tomb of Khnumhotep II at Beni Hassan

A man leads two dogs on a leash. This detail occurs on the left side of the chapel's north wall, and is part of a larger desert hunt scene General view of the north wall. In Ancient Egypt, dogs (Canis familiaris) were regularly used in hunting activities. The first dog is a saluki and has mottled coat (a white coat with black markings). The second dog is a pricked-ear hound and has a whip tail. Both dogs wear rope collars. The dogs are led by a man who accompanies the tomb owner during a desert hunt (see : Tomb owner hunting in the desert).
